CAREER STRATEGY · PROFESSIONAL POSITIONING · NARRATIVE
I make complex careers easier to understand.
For more than 15 years, I’ve helped professionals turn messy, nonlinear, hard-to-explain experience into clear narratives that communicate what they do, why it matters, and where they belong next.
I do that work in two ways: directly with professionals and executives, and alongside career organizations that bring me into their programs as a strategist, writer, and narrative partner.
Most career problems are interpretation problems.
You can have strong experience and still struggle to explain what it adds up to.
Responsibilities grow faster than titles. Careers take turns. Great work gets buried beneath years of detail. The market sees fragments where you see an obvious throughline.
That gap—between the career you have lived and the story another person can quickly understand—is where most of my work begins.
I care less about making people sound impressive than making the right things obvious: level, scope, evidence, direction, and the logic connecting one move to the next.
What I work on
Current thinking
I write about the parts of career development that become interesting once you stop treating the resume as the whole problem.
From Doer to Strategist
Why strong execution can become a ceiling—and how professionals build a credible strategic identity around the work they already do.
Context Is King
Accomplishments are only useful when the reader can interpret their scale, difficulty, ownership, and significance.
How to Make Sense of a Complex Career
A winding path does not need to be simplified into something generic. It needs a clear throughline.
For programs and organizations
I work with career organizations, coaching firms, outplacement providers, professional-development programs, and other businesses that need experienced career-services judgment inside their delivery model.
The work can include narrative strategy, resume and LinkedIn development, specialist review, asynchronous coaching, curriculum support, office hours, workshops, and resources.
I step into established workflows, learn the program’s methodology and standards, and own the narrative work without needing to make the process mine.
The goal is not additional production for its own sake. It is stronger delivery: thoughtful work, handled independently, without flattening every client into the same template.
Built from the work
15+ years
Helping people make sense of complicated careers, transitions, and professional identities.
Across those environments, the details are always different. The underlying problem usually is not: someone’s experience is more valuable than the story currently being told about it.
About zebo.
Fifteen years ago, this started with me rewriting resumes after hours because I could not stand meaningless buzzwords—or watching talented people struggle to explain the value they had already created.
It eventually became zebo.: my independent practice combining career strategy, professional writing, and a journalist’s instinct for finding the story buried underneath all the noise.
I’m Zechariah Borden, a Certified Professional Resume Writer, Certified Digital Career Strategist, and career coach in training. This is where I write, teach, develop methods, and explore the harder parts of career strategy.

If there is a clear reason our work should overlap, let’s talk.
Partnerships, workshops, teaching, speaking, and interesting problems are all fair game.
